City of Vancouver Credit Union

MUSQUEAM, SQUAMISH AND TSLEIL-WAUTUTH/VANCOUVER NATION TERRITORIES, British Columbia, Feb. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Vancity today announced it is temporarily waiving wire transfer fees for sending money to Ukraine. There are over a million Canadians who identify as Ukrainian, and many more with strong personal ties who care deeply and want to help. Vancity members will be able to send money to friends or family members in Ukraine free of charge.

In addition to waiving wire transfer fees, Vancity is supporting by donating a total of $50,000 to Humanitarian Appeal for Ukraine and local Ukrainian organizations here in Canada. Half of the funds donated will be used for immediate humanitarian assistance, including assistance to displaced people, medical care, emergency shelter and food security for the Ukrainian people. As the situation evolves, Vancity is calling on local partners to allocate the remaining $25,000 to support Ukrainians.

“Vancity stands with the people of Ukraine,” said Vancity Group President and CEO Christine Bergeron. “Russia’s unprovoked military invasion of Ukraine is an attack on the values of a free and democratic world, values that are at the heart of cooperatives. We all have a role to play in supporting the people of Ukraine, and the measures we are announcing today are one small gesture that Vancity can do to offer our support. I encourage those in a position to do so to donate to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Members and the public can donate directly to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal through the Canada Ukraine Foundation: https://www.cufoundation.ca/cuf-ucc-ukraine-humanitarian-relief/.
